Spam, spam, spam, spam...

I'm not blogging for a while - although Today Tonight's infomercial for a holographic, super-mylar, uber-galactic, space-aged, mystical, crystal-driven ultra-strength-enhancing bracelet has tested that theory. I'm sure they'll say it wasn't an infomercial but apparently the bracelet website crashed after the story promoting the $60 item aired. Read the transcript for yourself and see if you can describe it as anything other than an outright hard sell.

Oh, and while I'm here... WA Scam Net just sent me a heads-up about a bunch of psychic scams promising great fortune to people who buy their services...

A range of scams involving bogus psychics and clairvoyants are flooding letter boxes with the only guarantee about the receiver’s future being that they will be out of pocket if they respond.

The letters come from a company only known as GSP which use a post office box in Holland as a reply address.

The various scams offer to give the lucky recipients winning lottery numbers, good luck charms to improve financial fortunes and ways to unlock the secrets of winning games of chance.

But not for free of course! All scams suggest a payment of good faith ranging from $29.90 to $100.

The advice continues and lists specific schemes. My only complaint is that the the warning is far too specific and by using the term "bogus psychics", could imply that those not included on this list are legitimate. If you want to receive Scam Net warnings, sign up on their website.

Anyway, the real point of this post was to announce that I've turned on some comment features - including text verification and moderation. This is due to a sudden rush of spam from a ponzi-pyramid scheme. The comments, written in the sort of crappy English we've come to expect from people who supposedly make thousands of dollars a day doing absolutely nothing, claim we can all get rich if we're only willing to hand over some of our own money to get the cash-flow started...

"I feel good, I began to take up income with the help of this company,
and I invite you to do the same. If it gets down to select a correct companion utilizes your funds in a right way - that`s it!.
I earn US$2,000 per day, and my first investment was 500 dollars only!"

Just like a pyramid scheme.
